The Mulligan

Ready

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

— 1 John 1:9

Set

In golf, a mulligan is a second chance—a do-over. It’s not official, but it’s often offered in casual rounds as a gesture of grace. You slice your drive into the woods, and your playing partner says, “Take a mulligan.”

Spiritually, we all need a mulligan. We’ve all made poor swings—choices that missed the mark. But God doesn’t just offer a casual do-over. He offers full forgiveness through Jesus. When we confess, He doesn’t just erase the mistake—He cleanses us completely.

  • What does confession look like in your life?
  • How does God’s forgiveness compare to a mulligan?
  • How can you extend grace to others the way God has extended it to you?

Go

  • What mistakes do you need to bring to God today?
  • How does knowing you’re forgiven change your confidence?
  • Who needs a “mulligan” from you?

Workout

Psalm 103:12

Micah 7:18-19

Overtime

Lord, thank You for Your grace. I’ve missed the mark, but You offer forgiveness and restoration. Help me live in the freedom of Your mercy and extend it to others.

The Greatest Shot

Ready

“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”

— 2 Corinthians 5:21

Set

In the history of golf, hole-in-ones are rare and celebrated. Most happen on par 3s, a few on par 4s, and only four have ever been recorded on a par 5. The last? Mike Crean in Colorado, 2004.

Now imagine the YOLO Golf Tournament—a one-ball, one-swing challenge. The tee box is 2,521 yards from the hole. The first half is all carry over water. The second half is a narrow 3-yard fairway lined with thick trees. The green is elevated 200 feet. Wind? A steady 50 mph in your face, gusting to 100.

You get one shot. One chance. One life.

You swing with everything you’ve got—and fall embarrassingly short. You toward your loss, defeated. But then, the tournament chairman stops you. There’s a local rule: not a mulligan, but a complete exchange. Someone has already made the shot. He’s in the clubhouse. You can trade your shot for his.

What do you do?

That’s the heart of the Gospel. We all fall short. But Jesus—perfect, sinless—stepped in and made the shot we couldn’t. On the cross, God treated Jesus as if He had hit our failed shot, and now offers to treat us as if we hit His perfect one.

Let’s reflect on this through 2 Corinthians 5:

  • What does it mean that Jesus “became sin” for us?
  • What do we receive in return?
  • How does this change how we live?

This is the Great Exchange. One life. One shot. One Savior who made it count.

Go

  • Have you ever tried to earn God’s approval through your own efforts?
  • What does it mean to you personally that Jesus made the shot for you?
  • How can you live today in light of the righteousness you’ve received?

Workout

Romans 3:23-24 — “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Overtime

Father, I know I’ve missed the mark. I’ve tried to make the shot on my own, and I’ve failed. Thank You for Jesus—who made the shot I couldn’t. Help me live in the freedom and joy of Your grace. May my life reflect the righteousness You’ve given me, and may others see Your glory through me. Amen.

The Caddie's Voice

Ready

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

— Isaiah 30:21

Set

A good caddie doesn’t just carry clubs—they offer wisdom, strategy, and encouragement. They know the course and help the golfer navigate each shot.

God is our ultimate caddie. Through His Spirit, He speaks, guides, and leads us. But we must listen. In the noise of life, His voice can be drowned out. Are you tuned in?

  • How do you hear God’s voice in your life?
  • What does it mean to trust His guidance?
  • Are you following His lead or swinging on your own?

Go

  • What helps you hear God’s voice clearly?
  • How can you trust His guidance more fully?
  • Who helps you discern God’s direction?

Workout

John 10:27

Proverbs 3:5-6

Overtime

Lord, be my guide. Help me hear Your voice above the noise. Lead me in every decision, and teach me to trust Your wisdom over my own.

The Sand Trap

Ready

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

— Romans 6:23

Set

Every golfer dreads the sand trap. It’s deceptive—you think you’re close to the green, but one wrong swing and you’re stuck. Getting out takes precision, patience, and often a few strokes more than you’d like to admit.

Sin is like a spiritual sand trap. It looks harmless at first—just a small compromise, a little misstep. But before you know it, you’re stuck. You try to dig yourself out, but the more you swing, the deeper you go.

Romans 6:23 reminds us that sin has consequences. It separates us from God and leads to death. But the good news? God doesn’t leave us in the trap. Through Jesus, He offers rescue, redemption, and falling into?

  • How does sin deceive us into thinking we’re still close to the green?
  • What does it mean to accept God’s gift of grace instead of trying to earn your way out?

Go

  • What sins have you tried to overcome on your own?
  • How does Jesus offer freedom from the traps you’re stuck in?
  • What does it look like to walk in grace instead of guilt?

Workout

Galatians 5:1

1 John 1:7

Overtime

Jesus, I’ve tried to get out of the trap on my own, and I’ve only made things worse. Thank You for stepping in and offering freedom. Help me walk in Your grace and not return to the traps You’ve rescued me from. Amen.

Trusting the Yardage

Ready

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

— Proverbs 3:5

Set

Wyndham Clark, after winning the U.S. Open, said, “God has a plan for me, and it’s far greater than I ever imagined.” That’s trust—believing in God’s yardage even when the shot looks impossible.

In golf, trusting your yardage book is essential. You rely on it to guide your decisions. Spiritually, God’s Word is our yardage book. It doesn’t always make sense, but it’s always right.

  • What areas of life feel uncertain right now?
  • How can you trust God’s plan even when it’s hard to see?
  • What does leaning on His understanding look like practically?

Go

  • What’s one area where you need to trust God more?
  • How can Scripture guide your decisions?
  • Who helps you stay accountable to God’s truth?

Workout

Psalm 37:5

Isaiah 55:8–9

Overtime

Father, help me trust Your yardage. Even when the shot looks risky, I choose to follow Your lead. Teach me to lean on Your wisdom and not my own.

Identity Over Scorecard

Ready

“For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

— Colossians 3:3

Set

Scottie Scheffler, the current World #1, once said, “My identity isn’t a golf score. All I’m trying to do is glorify God.” That’s a powerful reminder in a sport where your worth can feel tied to your performance.

Golf is a game of numbers—scores, rankings, stats. But in Christ, our identity isn’t found in results. It’s found in redemption. Whether you shoot 62 or 82, your value doesn’t change in God’s eyes.

  • What defines your identity?
  • How do you respond when your performance doesn’t meet expectations?
  • What does it mean to be “hidden with Christ”?

Go

  • Where do you find your worth?
  • How can you glorify God regardless of your score?
  • What truth from Scripture helps you stay grounded?

Workout

Galatians 2:20

Romans 8:1

Overtime

Lord, remind me that I am Yours—not because of what I do, but because of what You’ve done. Help me play, lead, and live from a place of grace, not performance.
